I wanted them to feel colorful and fun without looking like someone dumped every sticker in the craft drawer onto one page. Because once you start adding the birthday info, the address, RSVP, “please bring socks,” and whatever random note the venue tells you to include… whew… things get crowded FAST.
So I kept everything bright but easy to read.
Lots of happy blues, pinks, purples, yellows, little stars, confetti, memory orbs, and all those fun details that scream Inside Out without making your eyes hurt.
And I purposely left some breathing room.
Because let’s be honest…
Every single time I finish an invitation, I remember ONE more thing.
“Oh wait… I forgot to mention pizza’s at noon.”

There’s a cleaner layout with nice big text because… grandparents. 😂 I love them, but tiny fonts are not their friend.

Canva has become my little party-planning sidekick.
I’ve edited invitations sitting in the school pickup line.
I’ve edited invitations while waiting for chicken nuggets in the air fryer.
One time I changed the party time while hiding in my pantry because everyone suddenly needed something from me.

Editing these is basically click… type… done.
Well…
Mostly.
I did make one tiny mistake the first time around.
Actually, not tiny.
I picked the prettiest pale yellow font because it looked soooo cute on my laptop.
Printed it…
Couldn’t read a thing.
Like…
Not even a little bit.
So back into Canva I went.
I switched it to a darker gold, added the tiniest little shadow, and suddenly everybody could actually read it.
Not as Pinterest-perfect.
Way more useful.
Honestly, I’ve stopped designing invitations that only look good on screens.
Real moms print stuff at home. We need fonts people can actually read.
I also started making the birthday kid’s name bigger than everything else.
Because that’s literally the first thing kids look for.

Little tweaks that save a headache later
Here’s one random trick I learned the hard way…
Always type your party location FIRST.
Seriously.
Don’t pick the font size until after you’ve pasted the address.
Because one year I had to squeeze something ridiculous like…
“Community Recreation Center Multipurpose Room B”
…into one tiny line.
It looked like microscopic legal paperwork. 😂
Now I always start with the address and work backward.
A few other things I always do now…
- Make your birthday kid’s name the biggest thing on the page.
- Keep the party info short. Nobody wants to read a novel on an invitation.
- If kids need socks, swimsuits, or anything special, add one tiny note at the bottom.
- Before you print… double-check the time.
I swear the start time somehow becomes invisible after you’ve stared at the invitation for two hours.
Printing Your Inside Out Invitations Without Burning Through Printer Ink

My home printer and I have a complicated relationship.
It somehow always runs out of colored ink exactly when I need ONE more invitation.
So these days?
If I’m already out running errands, I usually upload everything to Walgreens.
The 5×7 prints are usually around twenty cents each, and honestly… that’s cheaper than me arguing with my printer for an hour.
If I want heavier cardstock, Staples has been really solid too.
I usually grab matte cardstock.
Mostly because little fingerprints don’t show nearly as much after twenty kids pass invitations around at school.
Glossy does make all those bright Inside Out colors pop though.
So really…
You can’t lose.
It’s just whatever look you like better.

Here’s something I’ve learned after throwing more birthday parties than I can count…
Kids notice the FUN.
Adults notice whether everyone had enough snacks.
Nobody is walking around judging whether your balloon arch has exactly 173 balloons.
Promise.
A few easy decorations can totally pull everything together.

DIY memory orbs using clear plastic ornaments from the craft store.

Cute snack labels for each emotion.
A simple balloon garland if you’re feeling extra. (Keyword: simple. Don’t watch the fancy Instagram videos unless you enjoy stress. 😂)
