“Mom, I think I wanna do Paw Patrol now.”
Not dramatic. Not emotional. Just casually tossing life changes around at 9:47pm like we’re in a board meeting.
And honestly? I wasn’t even mad 😂
Because dinosaurs had been the theme for like… maybe a week? Two? In mom time that’s basically temporary anyway.
So there I am:
one AirPod in listening to half a podcast
laundry still sitting in the dryer since yesterday probably
reheated coffee I forgot to drink
dog staring at me like he pays bills here
…and suddenly I’m scrolling through Paw Patrol birthday invitations instead of sleeping.
Which honestly felt way more fun than folding tiny socks.
And weirdly? The Paw Patrol stuff ended up way cuter than the dinosaur phase ever was.
Also side note:
Why do kids always switch themes RIGHT after you finally start getting ideas together??
Like I had already saved cupcake inspo. I had emotionally connected to little dinosaur footprints. I was invested 😂
But okay. New era.
Unleash the Fun (aka me casually redoing the whole theme while pretending it’s fine)
I needed fast, free, and PLEASE not ugly
There was absolutely no universe where I was getting in my car to go buy invitations.
Not at night. Not in my stretched-out leggings. Not with dry mac & cheese still under my nails.
So yeah—I went straight to Canva looking for Paw Patrol birthday invitations I could just fix and send.
And honestly? It saved me.
Because:
It was instant (no waiting, bless)
It was free (we love a free moment)
And it didn’t look like something printed in 2007
Also kids do not care about fancy paper.
They see Chase.
They see Marshall.
They scream “THIS IS MY PARTY??”
That’s it. That’s the whole review process.
Why Paw Patrol just works (even when your house is a disaster)
Every kid is already emotionally invested
You don’t have to explain the theme.
They’re already in deep.
My kid is currently obsessed with Marshall—like full commitment. Running around yelling “I’M OKAY!!” after falling over nothing.
So obviously we leaned into that.
The invite I found had:
Bright blue background (very chaotic Adventure Bay energy)
Big characters front and center (not those tiny ones you have to squint at)
Paw badge designs everywhere
It felt fun but not like… overwhelming.
Which I appreciated because my brain was already overwhelmed enough trying to remember if I’d RSVPed to someone else’s party next weekend.
Getting the template (while everything around me was falling apart)
What I actually did, in real life chaos
So I:
Clicked the Canva link
Hit “Use Template”
Stared at it for a second like… wait this is actually kinda cute??
Then immediately got interrupted because:
“Mom I’m hungryyyyy”
“You JUST ate??? What do you mean??”
Anyway.
I came back, changed:
Name
Age
Date
Location
Downloaded as PDF.
Done.
Simple. Which is exactly what I needed because my brain was operating at like 42%.

Things I did NOT prepare (and paid for emotionally)
I did not have:
The correct party time (had to text my husband: “what did we say again??”)
The RSVP details figured out
Any sense of organization whatsoever
Also I typed the time as “14:00” at first and just stared at it like…
Why am I like this.
Immediately changed it to 2pm.
We are not that kind of family.
Personalizing the invite (aka me making it harder than it needed to be)
I accidentally turned this into a whole project
I thought I’d be in and out.
Nope.
Next thing I know I’m:
Resizing text like it personally offended me
Moving boxes around
Undoing things 17 times
At one point I dragged the entire design off-center and just sat there like…
“Do I start over or do I cry first??”
What actually mattered in the end
After all that chaos, here’s what stuck:
Kid’s name = BIG
Age = BIGGER (because turning 5 is apparently a life event on par with graduation)
RSVP = “text me pls”
Because again… nobody is calling.
Let’s be serious.
The photo debate
I almost added a picture of my kid.
But it looked like… too much.
Between all the colors and characters, it just felt crowded.
So I skipped it.
Added a cheesy line instead:
“Come join us for some pup-tastic fun!”
Did I roll my eyes typing it? Yes.
Did I keep it anyway? Also yes.
Printing (where I almost lost it, not gonna lie)
My first print run was… tragic
I ordered prints at Walgreens.
Went to pick them up, opened the envelope, and immediately,
Why is everything SO dark??
Like Chase looked like he hadn’t slept in days.
Marshall?? Missing half his face because it got cropped weird.
I just stood there in the store like…
“Okay. Deep breaths. We fix this.”
Round two (slightly less chaotic)
I:
Brightened the design in Canva
Chose matte instead of glossy
Double-checked the crop
And it actually came out cute.
Finally.
Real talk if you’re printing at home
Use cardstock (regular paper feels like a sad flyer)
Print ONE test copy first (learn from my mistakes)
Check margins unless you want half a dog missing
I also sent digital invites because I’m not chasing people down
Half printed.
Half texted.
I just downloaded a PNG and sent it like:
“Hey! Party this Saturday, let me know if you can come!”
Done.
Efficient. No small talk. Love that.
And then suddenly… it’s a whole party
Decor (thrown together but it worked)
I grabbed:
Red, blue, yellow balloons
Paw print stickers (still proud of that one)
A banner I hung literally as people were walking in
Was it perfect?
No.
Did it look like I tried?
Also no.
But it worked.
Activities (aka chaos but make it intentional)
“Rescue mission” (I hid random stuff and called it a game)
Freeze dance (inevitable)
Coloring pages printed last second
Kids were screaming. Running. Living their best lives.
No one cared about structure.
Food (I learned my lesson)
No themed nonsense this time.
Just:
Pizza
Juice boxes
Cupcakes
Everything got eaten.
No regrets.
Party favors (grab, toss, done)
I threw together:
Stickers
Tiny toys
Snacks
Into a bag.
That’s it.
Kids acted like I handed them gold.
The late-night questions I was stress-googling
- Are these Paw Patrol birthday invitations actually free?
Yes.
Didn’t pay anything.
Still shocked.
- Can I edit on my phone?
You can…
But you will get annoyed.
I tried in the carpool line and immediately gave up.
Laptop is way easier.
- What size works best?
5×7.
Don’t overthink it.
- How do I send digital invites?
Download → text → done.
No one is checking email like that.
- Would I survive this again?
Honestly… yeah.
The Paw Patrol birthday invitations were the least chaotic part of the whole thing.
Which is saying a LOT.
Because everything else felt like:
running late
forgetting things
cleaning while people are literally at the door
But my kid had the best time.
Like full-on, face-hurting-from-smiling kind of happy.
So yeah.
Worth the mac & cheese scraping. Worth the chaos. Worth me sitting there at 10:12pm like “how did we get here??”
We got there.
Barely.
But we did.
