Charlotte has been in this phase where everything has to be “kinda spooky but not, like… nightmare spooky.” Which, okay girl, that’s a very specific vibe. Andrew rolled his eyes (lovingly lol) when I opened Canva for what had to be the fifth time that week, but I swear the invitation is where the party starts. Once that’s cute, everything else somehow falls into place.

My ParaNorman Invitation Collection Got a Fun Little Refresh (And Yep… the Kids Noticed)

I’ve been making ParaNorman invitation templates for a while now, and every birthday season I end up sneaking back into Canva to change random little things. Not because they were bad… I just keep noticing what kids actually stop and look at.

It’s honestly never the stuff I expect.

I can spend forever picking fonts, and meanwhile Louise is over there going, “Mom, the zombie’s eyebrow is funny.”

Cool. Glad somebody appreciated my artistic journey.

So this newer collection leans way more into that goofy, weird ParaNorman energy. It’s spooky enough that the bigger kids think it’s cool, but not so creepy that your preschooler cousin refuses to hold the invitation. Been there. Didn’t love explaining that one.

Why I Keep Coming Back to a ParaNorman Invitation Theme

I feel like ParaNorman is one of those movies that’s spooky without trying way too hard. It’s weird, funny, a little awkward… honestly kinda like most elementary school kids.

So I wanted the invitations to feel the same.

Instead of making everything super dark and haunted-house-ish, I mixed in dusty teal, mossy green, pumpkin orange, faded purple, and these soft golden yellows that remind me of Halloween when we were kids. Less horror movie… more neighborhood trick-or-treating until the streetlights came on.

And the tiny details? Those are weirdly the MVP.

Little ghosts hiding behind trees.

Crooked fences.

A grumpy crow.

Pumpkins with ridiculous little faces.

Wonky handwritten fonts that look like Norman scribbled them himself.

Kids eat. That. Up.

I had one of Charlotte’s friends spend a solid minute trying to find every hidden ghost instead of reading the party details.

Mission accomplished, honestly.

What I Ended Up Doing in Canva (And the Tiny Oops That Almost Stayed There)

ParaNorman birthday party ideas

I always tell myself this invitation will take twenty minutes.

Girl…

Why do I keep lying to myself?

I opened Canva after dinner while Andrew was helping Louise finish homework, and I figured I’d just swap the party info really quick.

Except Charlotte wandered over.

“I don’t like that font anymore.”

Okay.

Then…

“Can Norman be a little bigger?”

Sure.

“And can the pumpkin smile?”

Ma’am.

So there I was, forty-five minutes later, moving tiny pumpkins around by like… two pixels because apparently that’s my life now.

Then I printed a test copy.

Y’all.

The haunted house basically disappeared into one giant dark blob.

Everything looked so much brighter on my laptop. I should’ve known.

I went back, bumped up the brightness, softened some shadows, made the orange lettering pop a little more, and suddenly everything looked way better.

Tiny tip that has saved me more than once…

Always print one copy before you order twenty.

Paper is cheaper than regret.

A Few of My Favorite Templates

ParaNorman birthday party ideas

Classic ParaNorman

Perfect if your kid actually loves the movie and wants everyone to know it’s a spooky birthday without going full haunted mansion.

Friendly Zombie

Probably my pick for ages five to eight. Cute enough that younger kids won’t side-eye it.

Haunted Neighborhood

This one’s for kids who love Halloween decorations before Halloween even starts. You know the type.

Ghost Gang

Louise immediately said this one looked “actually funny,” which is basically the highest compliment a little brother can give.

Pumpkin Night

Bright, colorful, and honestly my favorite if you’re inviting lots of younger siblings too.

How to Easily Download Your Free ParaNorman Canva Templates

It’s super easy.

Click the Canva link, save your own copy, and start changing whatever you want.

I usually duplicate the template first because… okay… I’ve accidentally edited my original before.

More than once.

I’m choosing growth.

This is literally the order I do it every single time now because otherwise my brain goes in twelve directions.

First I change the party details.

Then the age.

Then the RSVP.

Then I zoom all the way out before downloading because random floating text boxes have personally victimized me enough times.

Seriously.

If you’ve never downloaded an invitation with one lonely text box hanging out in the corner…

Congratulations.

You’re stronger than me.

Tips for Printing Your Spooktacular ParaNorman Invitations at Home or Professionally

ParaNorman birthday party ideas

If I only need a handful, Walgreens is honestly my go-to because their 5×7 photo prints are usually around twenty cents each whenever a photo sale is happening.

If I want thicker cardstock that feels a little fancier, I swing by Staples.

Nine times out of ten, I grab matte.

Glossy is cute for about five seconds… until sticky little fingerprints, pizza grease, and cupcake frosting decide they live there now.

Matte just forgives everybody.

Including toddlers.

Creative ParaNorman Party Ideas to Pair with Your Unique InvitesParaNorman birthday party ideas

I love when the invitation matches little parts of the party, but I also love… not spending a small fortune.

Here’s what actually worked for us.

Zombie Hunt

I printed tiny zombie pictures, taped them around the backyard, and the kids absolutely lost their minds trying to find every single one.

Pinterest has tons of free idea.

Ghost Photo Corner

White streamers.

Dollar-store spiderwebs.

A balloon arch if you’re feeling ambitious.

Done.

Photo booth ideas.

DIY Treat Bags

I skipped the expensive licensed favor bags and grabbed plain kraft bags instead.

Then we covered them in spooky stickers.

The kids didn’t care one bit that they weren’t “official.”

Amazon has super cheap sticker pack.

Paint Mini Pumpkins

This one kept everybody busy way longer than I expected.

Foam pumpkins are honestly worth it if you don’t want pumpkin guts all over your patio.

I found inexpensive options here.

After the Party…

ParaNorman birthday party ideas

This cracked me up.

One little boy walked in holding the invitation and immediately started looking for all the hidden ghosts before he even said hi.

Meanwhile another mom asked where I ordered them because she assumed I’d bought some fancy custom set online.

Nope.

Just me, Canva, and probably too much iced coffee.

Charlotte tucked one invitation onto her bedroom corkboard afterward because she “wanted to keep it.”

That tiny moment honestly made all the tiny edits feel worth it.

Sometimes that’s the best review you get.

Frequently Asked Questions About ParaNorman Templates

Can I edit everything?

Yep! Names, colors, fonts, party details… go wild.

Do I need Canva Pro?

Nope. Everything here is made to be easy with Canva’s free version unless I mention otherwise.

Matte or glossy?

Team matte forever over here.

It hides fingerprints, doesn’t glare, and somehow still feels really nice in your hand.

Can I just text the invitation?

Absolutely.

Half the parents in Charlotte’s class actually prefer getting the invite by text anyway. Download it as a PNG and send it over.

What’s the best size?

I still stick with 5×7 because it’s easy to print, easy to mail, and Walgreens usually has great prices.

Once I have the invitation finished, I kinda get on a roll.

Then suddenly I’m making cupcake toppers… food labels… thank-you tags… little welcome signs…

Does every party need all that?

Absolutely not.

Do I have fun doing it anyway while Andrew blows up balloons and Louise keeps stealing the tape for absolutely no reason?

Every single time.

And honestly? Those little matching details make everything feel pulled together without spending a ridiculous amount of money. That’s always the goal around here.
