It started while I was cleaning out Charlotte’s school folder and found three birthday invites stuffed in the bottom like they’d survived an entire semester. That’s when I realized kids notice fun invitations way more than we give them credit for, so I went back and made a whole new batch of Flynn Rider Tangled designs that feel brighter, cuter, and honestly just more fun.

Why Choose Flynn Rider Tangled for Your Child’s Birthday?

The Enduring Charm of Flynn Rider

Around here, Rapunzel usually gets all the attention, but Louise? He’s 100% on Team Flynn. He thinks Flynn is funny, brave, and “the guy with the cool horse,” which… honestly isn’t wrong.

That’s why I wanted these invitations to lean into Flynn instead of making him feel like an afterthought. Some kids don’t necessarily want an invitation covered in pink flowers. They still love Tangled, just from Flynn’s side of the adventure.

So the designs mix adventure with fairy tale instead of making everything super princess-heavy. It feels a little more balanced, especially if you’re planning a party for boys, siblings, or kids who just like the movie.

Creating a Magical Tangled Theme

I kept the colors warm because Tangled has that cozy golden look everyone remembers.

Think soft gold, deep purple, forest green, little lanterns floating around, castle silhouettes, wooden signs, frying pans (obviously), satchels, maps, horses, tiny crowns, and vines wrapping around the corners. Some invitations have more action vibes while others feel softer with watercolor-style backgrounds.

I also left plenty of white space because… been there. The first version I ever made looked adorable on my laptop, then I printed it and realized half the party info blended into the decorations.

Lesson learned.

A Glimpse at the Collection

There are over eighteen Canva templates now, but they’re not all copies with different colors.

A few are playful for preschool birthdays.

Some have a more storybook look for elementary-age kids.

A couple are pretty neutral if you’re doing siblings or don’t want everything screaming “princess party.”

And there are a handful that feel almost like an old adventure map, which Andrew actually liked more than I expected.

What Makes Our Templates Stand Out?

Honestly, I mostly designed these around how invitations actually get used in real life.

They’re editable in Canva, so changing the birthday details takes maybe five minutes.

The fonts are big enough for grandparents to read (important 😂).

The layouts don’t feel crowded.

And I purposely avoided placing important text near the edges because Walgreens has trimmed one of my prints before. Not by much… but enough for me to notice every single time.

Accessing and Editing Your Chosen Template

Flynn Rider tangled birthday party ideas6

Once you open the Canva template, everything is already arranged.

I usually change:

birthday child’s name
age
party date
location
RSVP
any note about costumes or food allergies

Done.

Seriously, Canva has gotten so much easier over the last couple years.

Customizing Text, Colors, and Images

I almost always adjust one thing.

For this party I originally picked a dark brown font because it matched Flynn’s vest.

Looked great on my monitor.

Printed? Not so much.

The brown disappeared into the parchment background.

So I switched to a darker charcoal color, made the name a little bigger, and suddenly everything looked way cleaner.

I also swapped one lantern illustration because it covered part of the party time. Tiny fix, huge difference.

Pro Tips for Canva Beginners

If you’re brand new:

Zoom in before moving anything.
Lock the background first so you don’t accidentally drag it around. (Ask me how I know.)
Keep no more than two fonts.
Print one test copy before ordering twenty.

That last one has saved me money more than once.

Printing and Sharing Your Tangled Masterpieces

Best Practices for Home Printing

If I’m only making one or two invitations for family, I’ll print them at home on heavier cardstock.

Matte usually hides fingerprints better, especially when little hands immediately grab them.

Glossy makes the colors pop more if your printer handles photo paper well.

Professional Printing Services vs. DIY

Most of the time I just upload mine to Walgreens.

Their 5×7 photo prints are usually around $0.20 each, especially when one of their photo sales is running, so I always peek for coupons first.

Staples is another favorite if I want thicker cardstock instead of photo prints. Their matte cardstock feels a little more like an actual invitation, which I personally love.

Honestly, both have worked great. I usually decide based on whichever errand I’m already running that day.

Digital Sharing Options

Not everyone wants paper anymore.

A lot of parents at Charlotte’s school actually prefer getting invitations through text.

After editing in Canva, I download a PNG and send it in the class parent group or by text message.

Super easy.

Decor Ideas Inspired by Corona

One thing that made the room feel surprisingly “Tangled” without spending much?

Lanterns.

Lots of paper lanterns.

I grabbed inexpensive paper lanterns online, mixed in faux vines, battery tea lights, and a few purple table runners.

Some budget places I checked while planning:

Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/s?k=paper+lantern+party+decor
Etsy: https://www.etsy.com/search?q=tangled+party+decor
Pinterest: https://www.pinterest.com/search/pins/?q=tangled%20party

Pinterest honestly gave me the cheapest DIY ideas because people share things made from dollar-store supplies.

Fun Activities & Games for Little Adventurers

A few games that actually kept everyone busy:

“Find Pascal” scavenger hunt with tiny green lizards hidden around the house.
Frying pan ring toss using plastic pans.
Lantern decorating station.
Treasure map obstacle course.

Louise somehow turned the obstacle course into a race with imaginary horses.

No regrets.

Tangled-Themed Food and Treats

Nothing fancy.

Purple lemonade.

Mini sandwiches.

Popcorn in little paper cones.

Cupcakes with gold sprinkles.

Fruit skewers because I needed at least one thing that looked healthy.

I also found printable cupcake toppers on Pinterest that were basically free after printing.

After the Party…

One thing I didn’t expect?

Several parents asked where I found the invitation before they even asked about the decorations.

One mom laughed because her son kept calling it “the wanted poster birthday.”

Charlotte loved seeing her friends point at Flynn right away, and Louise proudly explained to literally everyone why Maximus was the funniest character.

The invitations somehow became part of the conversation instead of something people tossed after reading.

That’s honestly my favorite part about making them.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Are these templates truly free?

Yep! You can edit them in Canva without paying. If you decide to swap in Canva Pro graphics or fonts later, that’s totally optional, but the original invitation works with the free version.

Do I need a Canva Pro account?

Nope. I always try to build my free invitation collections using Canva’s free elements first because I know not every family wants another subscription.

Can I use these for other events?

Absolutely. I’ve changed birthday versions into family movie night invites, classroom celebrations, cousin sleepovers, and even a little “Once Upon a Time” playdate. Just swap the wording and you’re good to go.
