Okay sooo apparently we’re a full Dragon Ball Z house now 😂
Because tell me why I was sitting in the school pickup line with my little iced coffee melting into sadness, fully thinking I had this birthday party handled. Like mentally DONE. I already had decorations saved, snacks planned, all that.
Then my oldest gets in the car, tosses his backpack like he pays bills here, and goes:
“Wait… I think I want Dragon Ball Z instead.”

The Moment I Realized the Invites Actually Matter
I thought invites were just… info. Nope.

But no. These kids? They treat it like a trailer for the party.

I needed something I could do half-distracted
I was not about to open some complicated design software.

And honestly? It’s kinda idiot-proof (respectfully).

How I Threw This Together Without Losing My Mind
Picking a template (aka letting my kid choose the loudest one)

Bright orange. Electric blue. Big character front and center like he’s about to fight someone.
I tried suggesting a “cleaner” one and he literally went,
“Yeah… no.”

Editing the details (this is where I almost messed up)
Typing everything in was easy… until I zoomed out and realized you couldn’t read ANYTHING.
Like the font looked cool up close but from a normal distance? Absolutely not.
So I had to:
switch to a thicker font
move stuff around like 10 times
double check the address because I always typo something (always)
Also almost forgot the RSVP.
Caught that at the very last second like—wow, that would’ve been awkward.
Adding extras… and then deleting them
I tried adding my kid’s photo.
Immediately no.
It looked like he got dropped into an anime battle against his will 😭
So I scrapped that and just added more graphics—Dragon Balls, little lightning streaks, that kinda thing.
Way better. Way less cursed.
Printing… aka where things got mildly annoying
First attempt: “I can totally print at home”
Listen. Technically? Yes.
Emotionally? No.
The paper felt flimsy, my printer started doing that weird streaky thing, and the colors looked kinda… meh.
Like the orange wasn’t giving what it was supposed to give.
Second attempt: just send it out and be done
I uploaded it and sent it to Walgreens.
Best decision.
Their 5×7 prints are cheap (bless), and I always pick matte because glossy + kids = fingerprints everywhere in 2 seconds.
Picked them up later while grabbing toothpaste and somehow $30 worth of snacks I did NOT plan to buy.
You know how it goes.
Sending Them Out (and not trusting backpacks)
I did both. Because I’ve learned.
Yes, I printed them.
Did I trust my kid to actually hand them out?
Absolutely not.
So I also:
downloaded the invite as a PNG
texted it to parents
dropped it in the class group chat like,
“Hey just in case this disappears into the void 😅”
Got a bunch of “thanks!!” and thumbs up, so… covered my bases.
The Party Stuff That Happened After (very low effort, high chaos)
Decorations = keep it simple, don’t overthink it
I did orange and blue balloons, taped up a few printed graphics, called it a day.
I’ve learned the hard way: kids do NOT care if it looks like Pinterest.
They just want it to feel fun and a little extra.
Food (aka I renamed everything and called it themed)
This is my favorite lazy hack:
candy = “Senzu Beans”
donut holes = “Energy Bites”
juice boxes = “Power Punch”
That’s it. That’s the effort.
And somehow they eat it like it’s more exciting. I don’t question it.
Activities… if you can even call them that
We did this “power up” yelling contest in the backyard.
Which sounds cute until you realize it’s just a bunch of kids screaming at full volume.
Neighbors definitely heard.
I just… pretended this was normal.
But hey—they had a blast, so whatever.
