Charlotte was sitting on the kitchen floor after breakfast, cutting out random stars from an old craft paper stash (because apparently we own 500 tiny paper scraps now??), and she goes, “Mom, can we do a space party someday?”

Meanwhile, Andrew was making coffee and laughing because Louise was wearing a superhero cape that was definitely not space-themed but somehow became part of the “mission.” And honestly… that’s how I ended up opening Canva again and making these Space Ghost Invitation designs.

I’ve learned that with kids, the theme usually starts from the smallest things. A cartoon they watched, a toy they found, a random idea at breakfast. And suddenly you’re planning cupcakes and wondering if you have enough tape at home. (Spoiler: you never do.)

Why I Keep Using Canva for Our Space Ghost Invitations

I’m gonna be honest, I love making birthday invitations, but I also don’t want it to turn into a whole “sit down for five hours and lose my mind” situation.

I’m a mom, not a graphic designer sitting in a fancy office with unlimited coffee. My reality is usually Canva open on my laptop while there’s laundry waiting, someone asking for snacks, and my coffee getting cold for the third time.

That’s why I keep coming back to Canva.

For these Space Ghost Invitation designs, I can literally open the template, change the name, update the party details, move a few things around, and boom… done.

No complicated software. No “wait, why did everything disappear?” moments. (Although… I still somehow manage to click the wrong button sometimes. Classic mom move.)

A Little Look at the Space Ghost Designs I Made

I wanted these invitations to feel fun and exciting, but not like I threw every space sticker I found onto one page.

You know what I mean?

Sometimes kids’ designs can get a little too much going on. Like… 12 planets, 8 rockets, 15 fonts, and suddenly nobody knows where the party details are hiding.

So I kept these designs playful but clean.

I used deep space colors like navy and black, mixed with bright pops of red, yellow, white, and blue. There are stars, galaxy backgrounds, superhero-style elements, comic-inspired details, glowing planets, and fun space icons that give that “ready for an adventure” feeling.

The kids usually notice the fun stuff first anyway. They don’t care if the layout is perfectly balanced. They see rockets and stars and immediately go, “Whoa, cool!”

And honestly? That’s the whole point.

The funny thing is… I always think I’m going to make a design quickly.

Then I spend twenty minutes deciding between two almost identical fonts.

Anyone else? No? Just me? Okay 😂

For these Space Ghost invitations, I started with the main design, then changed:

  • The birthday kid’s name
  • Party date and location
  • Font style
  • A few colors
  • Some little space icons

One tiny thing I had to fix was the headline color.

On my screen, the bright yellow looked amazing. Like, super bold. But when I printed a test copy, it looked kind of washed out. Not terrible, but definitely not the “bam!” look I wanted.

So I switched it to a warmer golden yellow and added a darker outline.

Such a small change, but it made the invitation look way better.

That’s my little mom hack: always print one test invitation first.

Don’t be like me and print 25 copies before realizing something looks weird. Been there. Done that.

Beyond the Invites: Space Ghost Party Ideas That Actually Kept Kids Busy

Screenshot

The invitation gets everyone excited, but the party activities are where the real magic happens.

Because let’s be real… five minutes into a birthday party, kids are like:

“Okay, what are we doing next?”

And suddenly you’re the cruise director. 😂

Intergalactic Games for Young Cadets

One activity that worked really well for us was a little “Space Mission Hunt.”

Nothing fancy.

I just hid some glow stars, little toy aliens, and shiny gems around the yard. The kids got a mission card and had to collect their “space treasures.”

They loved it.

The funny part? I spent time planning the whole thing, and the kids were equally excited about the tiny stickers I almost didn’t include.

Kids are hilarious like that.

Another easy one:

Asteroid Toss

Grab some silver balloons or wrap regular balls with foil, then let kids toss them into “space zones.”

Super simple. Barely costs anything. Still gets everyone running around.

For cheap supplies, I usually check:

Amazon space party supplies

Etsy space party decorations

Pinterest space party ideas

Craft Your Own Space Ghost Mask

This was actually my favorite part because it gave the kids something calmer to do.

After all the running around, everyone sat down and made their own Space Ghost masks.

I grabbed:

  • Cardstock
  • Markers
  • Star stickers
  • Glitter glue (yes, I knew what I was signing up for 😂)
  • Elastic strings

Was there glitter everywhere afterward?

Absolutely.

Did I regret it?

A little.

Would I do it again?

Probably yes because the kids were so proud showing off their creations.

“Power Band” Snack Station Ideas

I learned something after a few birthday parties:

Kids don’t need fancy food.

They need food with a fun name.

Same crackers. Different label. Suddenly it’s a party.

Here’s what I did:

  • Popcorn → Meteor Popcorn
  • Pretzel sticks → Rocket Sticks
  • Cheese cubes → Moon Rocks
  • Fruit cups → Galaxy Cups
  • Juice boxes → Space Fuel

My biggest tip? Don’t overcomplicate the menu.

I used to stress about making everything themed, and honestly the kids mostly wanted pizza and cupcakes anyway.

Pinterest has tons of cute budget-friendly ideas too.

Space Ghost Decor & Party Favors Without Going Overboard

I’m all about making things cute, but I also don’t want my house looking like a party store exploded.

So I focused on a few things:

  • Navy balloons
  • Silver star decorations
  • Black tablecloth
  • Glow sticks
  • A few astronaut toys

That’s it.

Sometimes less really does look better.

For favors, I filled little bags with:

  • Glow bracelets
  • Space stickers
  • Mini bubbles
  • Small toys

The kids were happy. Parents weren’t taking home a giant bag of random plastic stuff. Win-win.

Setting the Scene: Decorations That Actually Matter

Andrew helped me hang some paper stars around the party area, and honestly it made the biggest difference.

It wasn’t expensive.

It wasn’t complicated.

It just made the room feel more “space.”

One thing I learned though?

Don’t decorate every single corner.

I tried that once and ended up exhausted before guests even arrived.

Now I pick one main area — usually the snack table — and make that the cute spot.

Way easier.

Mission Control Food Ideas

I kept food super normal.

Because again… kids.

We had:

  • Pizza
  • Fruit
  • Veggie tray (mostly for the adults 😂)
  • Cupcakes
  • Drinks

For cupcakes, I used dark frosting with little star sprinkles.

It looked like I spent way more effort than I actually did.

Those are my favorite tricks.

My Space Ghost Party Checklist

Things I’m always glad I prepared:

  • Extra napkins
  • Extra snacks
  • Tape (seriously, buy more)
  • Trash bags nearby
  • Phone charger
  • Backup activity
  • Extra cupcakes

Because somehow there is always one kid who says:

“My brother didn’t get one.”

And suddenly you’re doing cupcake math.

Frequently Asked Questions About Space Ghost Parties

What Age Group Is Space Ghost Best For?

I think this theme works best for kids around 5–10 years old.

Younger kids love the colors and space elements.

Older kids usually get more into the superhero/cartoon side of it.

Charlotte loves the creative part, and Louise mostly just loves anything involving rockets and pretending he’s on a mission.

So honestly… it works for different personalities.

Do I Need Canva Pro for These Space Ghost Invitations?

Nope.

The free Canva version works totally fine.

You can edit the text, change colors, upload photos if you want, and download your invitation.

Canva Pro has extra features, but don’t feel like you need it just for birthday invitations.

Can I Print These Invitations at Home?

Yep!

I’ve done home printing plenty of times.

For smaller parties, I actually like using cardstock at home because I can print whenever I need.

For bigger guest lists, I usually send them to Walgreens.

Their 5×7 photo prints are around $0.20 each, which is honestly pretty convenient when you need a bunch.

My preference:

Matte finish:
My favorite because it feels nicer, fingerprints don’t show as much, and it feels more like a traditional invitation.

Glossy finish:
Brighter colors and a little more “photo-like,” but it can show fingerprints and glare.

Staples is also a good option if you want thicker cardstock.

Ready to Launch Your Space Ghost Adventure?

space ghost birthday party ideas1

After the party, Charlotte actually kept a few extra invitations because she liked the design so much.

And honestly, that made me smile.

It’s funny because invitations seem like such a small detail, but kids really do notice those little things. They get excited when they feel like the party is “theirs.”

That’s why I still love making them.

Not because everything has to be Pinterest-perfect (because trust me, my kitchen definitely says otherwise 😂), but because a simple invitation can be the little spark that gets everyone excited.

So if your little one is currently obsessed with space, superheroes, ghosts, or anything in between… these Space Ghost Invitation templates are a fun place to start.

Now excuse me while I go find where Louise hid my tape. Again. 😅
